UNICEF delegation meets Omar Abdullah to discuss child welfare initiatives

SRINAGAR: A delegation of UNICEF India on Monday called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and discussed strengthening collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir government in areas related to child-focused development and welfare.

The delegation included UNICEF India Deputy Representative (Programme) Jesper Moller, Child Protection Specialist Sharmila Ray and J&K Outpost Coordinator Hilal Ahmad Bhat.

According to an official statement, discussions centred on child protection, prevention of violence and exploitation, juvenile justice, family-based care, adolescent welfare and strengthening service-delivery systems for vulnerable children. The meeting also explored opportunities for expanding UNICEF-supported programmes in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister also met a delegation of the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI), led by its J&K Chapter Chairman Mir Anwar, which briefed him about tourism-related initiatives, including a proposed pan-India “Train to Valley” familiarisation tour scheduled from September 25 to 28.

A delegation of Business Network International (BNI) Jammu Kashmir, headed by Executive Directors CA Raghav Gupta and CA Dimpi Gupta, also met the Chief Minister and discussed the organisation’s ongoing initiatives.

In a separate meeting, representatives associated with TEDx NIT Srinagar, led by Coordinator In-charge Umar Majid, apprised Abdullah of preparations for the TEDx event scheduled to be held in Srinagar later this month.
