SRINAGAR: The Directorate of Colleges on Monday launched JK_SIGMA, a mobile application of the Students Integrated Grievance and Messaging Application (SIGMA), aimed at providing students of government degree colleges in Jammu and Kashmir with access to grievance redressal and official communication services through smartphones.

The application was released by Director Colleges, Dr Sheikh Ajaz Bashir. According to the department, the launch expands the reach of the SIGMA platform, which has been available through the Directorate of Colleges website since June 2025.

SIGMA was introduced by the Higher Education Department as part of its information and communication technology initiatives linked to the Directorate’s policy planning and development portal. The platform provides students with a channel to raise grievances that remain unresolved at the college level and receive official information from the department.

Officials said around 1.6 lakh students from 142 colleges are currently registered on the platform and that a substantial number of grievances have been received and resolved since its launch.

The mobile application enables students to receive official bulletins from the department and their respective colleges, submit grievances, track their status and provide feedback on the response received. According to the department, bulletins can also be accessed offline after being downloaded to the device.

The application includes role-based access for college and Directorate officials and provides dashboards and alerts to monitor pending grievances. The department said access is limited to students enrolled on the SIGMA portal and that the identity of students submitting grievances will not be disclosed to colleges without their consent.

The application is available free of cost on the Google Play Store. The Directorate has directed colleges to verify student records on the portal, conduct awareness programmes and ensure that grievances received through the platform are addressed within two days.
