RAMBAN: The Inter-District Division-Level Girls Chess Competition organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports concluded at Chanderkote on Monday, with around 132 players from across Jammu division participating in the event.
The competition featured Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories and saw participation from players representing Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Doda, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi and Ramban districts.
Kathua secured the title in the Under-14 girls category, while Jammu emerged victorious in both the Under-17 and Under-19 categories.
At the closing ceremony, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Nazir Hussain presented medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up. He congratulated the participants for their performance and encouraged them to continue competing at higher levels.
According to officials, the championship provided young chess players with an opportunity to gain competitive exposure and promote interest in the sport among students across Jammu division.
Participating teams also appreciated the arrangements made by the Ramban district administration for accommodation, food and other facilities during the event.
