Bhaderwah: The Bhaderwah administration has issued a public advisory for the safe and smooth conduct of the annual Kailash Yatra, scheduled to be held from September 8 to 10.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Bhaderwah, Sunil Kumar Bhutyal, said the advisory has been issued in view of the challenging terrain and high-altitude conditions associated with the pilgrimage to Kailash Kund, located at an elevation of about 14,500 feet.
Devotees have been advised to undertake the pilgrimage only after ensuring adequate physical fitness and to strictly follow the instructions issued by the Yatra Administration.
According to the advisory, pilgrims should carry valid identity proof, begin the journey early, maintain a gradual pace, take sufficient rest and remain adequately hydrated throughout the trek.
The administration has also advised devotees to monitor weather updates issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and local authorities and carry warm and waterproof clothing, rain gear, suitable footwear, torches, medicines, food items and other essential supplies.
Pilgrims experiencing symptoms of high-altitude sickness have been asked to immediately descend to a lower altitude and seek medical assistance.
As a precautionary measure, persons above 70 years of age, children below 14 years, pregnant women, lactating mothers with infants and individuals suffering from serious illnesses have been advised not to undertake the pilgrimage beyond designated points due to the difficult terrain and altitude.
The administration has prohibited the use of intoxicants, narcotic substances, alcohol, caffeinated drinks and tobacco products during the Yatra, warning that violators will face action under relevant laws.
Devotees have also been directed to use only designated trekking routes, avoid shortcuts and refrain from activities that may harm the environment. The use of single-use plastic has been strictly banned in the Yatra area.
The administration appealed to all pilgrims to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to safety and environmental guidelines to ensure a safe and orderly pilgrimage.
Emergency assistance will be available through designated officials from the revenue, police, health, forest and rural development departments, as well as the Station House Officer, Bhaderwah.
