SRINAGAR: North Campus, University of Kashmir, won the Inter-Department Men’s Cricket Tournament after defeating the Institute of Technology (IoT), Zakura Campus, in a Super Over final at the university’s main campus on Thursday.
Organised by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), the 40-day tournament featured 52 teams and more than 800 students from various teaching departments and satellite campuses of the university.
In the final, IoT Zakura Campus batted first and scored 128 runs, with Arsalan contributing 27 runs. North Campus matched the total by scoring 128 runs in its allotted overs, forcing the match into a Super Over.
In the tie-breaker, North Campus scored 22 runs, while IoT Zakura Campus managed 10, securing a 12-run victory and the tournament title.
At the concluding ceremony, Director, DPES, Prof. Raies Qadri announced that a coaching camp would be organised for selected players from the tournament to prepare them for the forthcoming Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament.
The event was attended by Dean and Director of IoT Zakura Campus, Prof. Muhammad Tariq Banday, and Director, North Campus, Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Muhammad, among other university officials.
Medals and trophies were presented to the winners and runners-up at the closing ceremony. The tournament was coordinated by Assistant Director, DPES, Dr. Nadeem Ahmad, with support from cricket coaches Sakeena Akhter and Amjad Qadir.
