RAMBAN: District Jammu and District Kathua secured top honours in different categories of the Inter-District Division-Level Chess Competition (Boys) for Jammu Province 2026-27, which concluded at Yatri Niwas Chanderkote in Ramban on Thursday.
Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), the championship saw participation from around 150 players representing various districts and schools across Jammu Province.
The competition was held in Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories.
In the Under-14 category, District Jammu secured first place, while District Kathua finished runners-up. Jammu also won the Under-17 title, with Kathua again taking the second position.
In the Under-19 category, District Kathua emerged champions, while District Jammu finished as runners-up.
Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Anuradha Gupta, and Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, attended the closing ceremony and felicitated the winners and runners-up.
Addressing the participants, Gupta called on coaches and technical officials to identify promising chess players and support their development through coaching and mentoring. She stressed the importance of preparing young players for higher-level competitions at divisional, Union Territory and national levels.
The championship was organised under the aegis of the Department of Youth Services and Sports and served as a platform for identifying emerging chess talent from across Jammu Province.
