SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday said it arrested two police officers in Srinagar in connection with an alleged bribery case involving a demand of ₹15,000 for closing an investigation.
According to the ACB, it received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, the investigating officer in FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification through Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
The bureau said it conducted a verification of the allegations, which prima facie established the demand for a bribe.
Subsequently, the ACB registered FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station ACB Srinagar and initiated an investigation.
During the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The ACB said Ravi Jee Bhat, a sub-inspector posted at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, was caught allegedly demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant on behalf of PSI Karanjeet Singh.
The bureau said the bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the accused in the presence of independent witnesses, following which he was taken into custody. Karanjeet Singh was later arrested in connection with the case.
Further investigation is underway, the ACB said.
