SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet in a land-grabbing fraud case before a court in Srinagar, officials said on Tuesday.
The chargesheet in FIR No. 08/2016, registered under Sections 420/511, 167, 471 and 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), was filed before the Court of the Sub-Judge, Srinagar, against Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Ahmad Malik and a resident of Barapather, Haft Chinar, Srinagar, and a former Patwari who has since died.
According to the Crime Branch, the case originated from a complaint alleging that the accused had conspired to grab land and obtain building permission from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) through the use of forged documents.
Following the complaint, an inquiry was ordered and later converted into a formal investigation. The probe allegedly established that forged documents had been used and that material facts were misrepresented in an attempt to secure ownership claims and building permission.
The investigation also found alleged misuse of official position in connection with the case, officials said.
The Crime Branch stated that the investigation had been concluded as “proved” and the chargesheet had been submitted before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
