Srinagar: Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Saturday inaugurated advanced radiology services, including a CT scan facility, besides non-invasive cardiology and medical oncology divisions at Imam Hussain Multispecialty Hospital in Bemina, Srinagar.
The newly introduced facilities are expected to strengthen access to specialised diagnostic and treatment services in the Valley, particularly for patients from economically weaker sections.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Itoo said expanding diagnostic and specialised treatment facilities closer to communities is essential for ensuring timely medical intervention and reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for advanced healthcare services.
She also highlighted the role of partnerships between the public and non-profit sectors in strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s healthcare ecosystem. According to the minister, the availability of modern radiology, cardiac and oncology services under one roof would improve patient convenience and facilitate timely treatment.
Itoo appreciated the Imam Hussain Hospital Foundation for its contribution to the healthcare sector and its model of providing services on a no-profit, no-loss basis.
Established in 1990, the hospital has expanded over the years from its initial healthcare initiatives, including a blood bank, into a multispecialty institution offering a range of medical and surgical services.
Hospital authorities said the institution provided outpatient services to nearly 20,000 patients during 2025-26. They said around 700 surgical procedures, including major oncology surgeries, were performed during the past 14 months.
According to the hospital management, about 2,500 dialysis sessions have been conducted, including nearly 500 sessions provided free of cost before the hospital was brought under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).
Officials said the hospital currently offers services through several specialty departments at subsidised rates, with a focus on patients from economically weaker sections. They added that a number of surgical procedures have also been performed free of cost for underprivileged patients.
The minister expressed hope that the newly inaugurated facilities would further enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide accessible and affordable healthcare services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
