Srinagar: National Conference General Secretary and Khanyar MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar on Saturday said repeated attempts to weaken the party had failed because of its longstanding connection with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a party meeting at the National Conference headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, Sagar said the NC’s political strength stemmed from public support and its historical association with the region’s political movements.

According to a party statement, Sagar described the National Conference as a political movement rooted in the struggles and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and claimed that efforts to undermine the party had not succeeded.

He said the party’s history was closely linked with the political and democratic developments of Jammu and Kashmir and maintained that the National Conference had consistently represented public concerns and aspirations.

Sagar further said the party viewed political power as a means to serve the people rather than an end in itself.

Referring to Articles 370 and 35A, he reiterated the party’s demand for their restoration and said the National Conference would continue to pursue what he described as a democratic and constitutional struggle for the restoration of the political and constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He also urged the Centre to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying elected governments should have adequate powers and resources to function effectively.

The NC leader said the party would continue to work for the empowerment of people and the protection of their democratic and constitutional rights.

Meanwhile, several public delegations from different areas met Sagar and raised local issues and concerns. According to the statement, he took up the matters with the concerned authorities and sought their resolution.
