SRINAGAR: National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar on Wednesday criticised rival political parties and leaders, alleging that attempts to alter their political record through “political theatrics” would not succeed as people were aware of their past actions.
Addressing a party meeting at the National Conference headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, Sagar said the people of Jammu and Kashmir had made significant sacrifices for democracy, education, healthcare and the development of democratic institutions.
He said it was important for the younger generation to remain aware of the region’s political history and the struggles that shaped its social and political landscape.
According to a party statement, Sagar said those who worked for the welfare of the people and strengthened democratic institutions could not be erased from history through political propaganda. He also alleged that some leaders had prioritised political power over public interests.
Referring to the constitutional changes of August 5, 2019, Sagar reiterated the National Conference’s opposition to the decisions taken by the Centre and described them as detrimental to the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the National Conference would continue its political and legal efforts for the restoration of what it termed the legitimate rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sagar asserted that political issues concerning the region could not be resolved through administrative measures alone and maintained that the party would continue pursuing its stated objectives with public support.
