SRINAGAR: Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Wednesday alleged that the government had failed to address key public concerns, including unemployment and the availability of basic amenities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a party meeting in Kupwara, Bukhari said unemployment remained one of the most serious challenges facing the youth and claimed that the issue was not receiving adequate attention from the government.
He also alleged that several areas continued to face shortages of basic services, including access to safe drinking water.
Commenting on the National Conference-led government, Bukhari said people had the right to seek accountability over election promises that, according to him, remained unfulfilled. Referring to the promise of providing 200 units of free electricity, he said voters expected commitments made during elections to be honoured.
The Apni Party chief was in Kupwara to review organisational matters and discuss local issues with party leaders. According to the party, leaders apprised him of public concerns and the prevailing political situation in the district.
During his visit, Bukhari also paid condolence visits at several places. He expressed sympathy with Apni Party District Secretary Kupwara Syed Javaid Geelani on the demise of his mother, Masooda Begum, and also visited Peer Ramzan to offer condolences on the death of Hayat Kumar of Herri Qadirabad. He later offered prayers at the grave of Sufi Buzareg Qadir Sahib.
Several senior party functionaries and district leaders attended the meeting.
