Srinagar: Agriculture Minister Javid Ahmad Dar on Friday reviewed preparations for an upcoming Kisan Mela and the foundation stone laying ceremony of a mandi at Wusan Bangil in Tangmarg, Baramulla.
The meeting was attended by MLA Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah, heads of agriculture and horticulture departments, and other officials.
Dar directed departments to ensure close coordination and timely completion of all arrangements for the farmers’ event. He stressed that the mela should serve as a platform for farmers to interact with departmental officers, agricultural scientists and technical experts while learning about modern farming practices and government schemes.
The minister asked departments to set up informative stalls highlighting their schemes, achievements, technologies and farmer-centric initiatives. He also directed officials to ensure adequate staffing at stalls to address farmers’ queries.
Emphasising the importance of the event, Dar said it should reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural economy, improving market infrastructure, enhancing farmers’ incomes and providing better market linkages.
He instructed officers to personally monitor preparations and ensure smooth conduct of the programme.
Regarding the proposed mandi at Wusan Bangil, officials informed the meeting that 50 kanals of land had been transferred to the Horticulture Planning and Marketing Department and possession of the land had already been taken.
