Jammu: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana on Wednesday emphasised the need to strengthen rural road connectivity in Mendhar constituency under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), particularly in remote and hilly areas.
The minister made the remarks while reviewing the progress of PMGSY projects in Mendhar at a meeting held at the Civil Secretariat, Jammu.
Reviewing ongoing works and the status of the tendering process, Rana directed officials to closely monitor projects and ensure their timely completion while maintaining prescribed quality standards.
He said reliable road connectivity is crucial for Mendhar due to its difficult terrain and scattered habitations, adding that PMGSY roads play an important role in linking remote areas with administrative centres and improving access to education, healthcare, markets and other essential services.
Taking note of roads damaged by recent rains, flash floods and landslides, the minister directed officials to expedite the tendering process for eligible road stretches proposed for inclusion under PMGSY so that restoration works can be taken up on priority.
Rana asked officers to complete all procedural formalities without delay and ensure that damaged roads are processed for inclusion under the PMGSY framework at the earliest. He also stressed better coordination among departments to remove bottlenecks and accelerate restoration efforts.
Calling for a proactive and result-oriented approach, the minister said restoring damaged road links, particularly in remote areas, should remain a priority to minimise inconvenience to the public.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to equitable development and last-mile connectivity, saying robust rural infrastructure is vital for improving quality of life and expanding socio-economic opportunities for people in far-flung areas.
