JAMMU: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Tuesday met several delegations at the Civil Secretariat and reviewed issues related to water supply, irrigation infrastructure and local development.
According to an official statement, the delegations raised various public concerns and sought intervention for improving basic infrastructure in their respective areas.
A delegation led by Taranjit Singh Toni from Suchetgarh highlighted the issue of a defunct borewell, stating that its non-functioning had affected lift irrigation schemes and created difficulties for farmers.
The delegation also sought desilting and restoration of irrigation channels to improve water availability for agricultural activities.
Rana directed the concerned officers to assess the issues on the ground and take necessary measures for restoration of the borewell and improvement of the affected lift irrigation schemes. He also stressed the need for timely desilting and maintenance of irrigation channels during the ongoing agricultural season.
The Minister assured the delegations that their genuine concerns would be examined on priority and addressed in a time-bound manner.
He reiterated that strengthening irrigation infrastructure and ensuring reliable water supply remained key priorities of the government and directed the departments concerned to coordinate closely with field agencies for effective execution of restoration and development works.
