JAMMU: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced that it will hold a protest in Jammu on August 17 against the National Conference (NC)-led government, alleging failure to fulfil election promises and address public grievances.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, chaired by J&K BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma along with BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul.
Addressing the meeting, Sharma alleged that the NC government had failed to deliver on commitments made during the Assembly elections and accused it of neglecting issues related to governance, development, employment and public services.
He claimed that the proposed protest would highlight what the party described as shortcomings in the government’s performance and raise issues affecting the common people.
Ashok Koul also criticised the government, alleging deterioration in public services, unemployment and poor governance. He claimed that the administration had failed to address public concerns effectively.
According to Koul, BJP workers will assemble at three different locations in Jammu city before converging for a protest march. He said responsibilities have been assigned to senior party leaders for the organisation of the programme.
Among those present at the meeting were BJP vice-president Priya Sethi, general secretaries Sanjita Dogra, Baldev Singh Billawaria and Gopal Mahajan, besides other senior party leaders.
