Thousands take part in ‘Jammu Runs for Unity’ marathon

JAMMU: Thousands of people participated in the “Jammu Runs for Unity” Marathon organised by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) at Bahu Plaza on Sunday to promote awareness about cleanliness, environmental protection and responsible civic behaviour.

The marathon was flagged off by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, in the presence of JMC Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav and other senior officials of the corporation.

According to officials, the event saw participation from children, youth and citizens from various sections of society. The programme was aimed at spreading awareness about maintaining cleanliness in public spaces and promoting environmentally responsible practices, particularly during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

The organisers said the marathon also highlighted the need to keep the city and pilgrimage routes clean and sustainable through collective public participation.

Certificates and prizes were distributed among winners in different categories at the conclusion of the event.

In the 5-km men’s category, Vivek Sharma secured first place, followed by Raghav Sharma and Mohd Kaif. In the women’s section, Kriti Devi finished first, while Neelam Dutta and Sheetal Devi secured second and third positions respectively.

In the 10-km men’s category, Balvinder Singh claimed the top spot, followed by Suraj Kumar and Rohit Sharma. In the women’s category, Dishu Thakur secured first position, while Deepanshi and Aditi Kohli finished second and third respectively.

JMC officials said the event was part of the corporation’s efforts to encourage citizen participation in cleanliness and environmental awareness initiatives.
