Jammu: The Jammu Crime Branch on Wednesday said it had cracked a Rs 3.75-crore cheating case within a record one month, facilitating the registration of the disputed property in favour of the complainant, who is a doctor by profession.
The case was registered by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch on July 8 against Pieary Lal Koul, a resident of Channi Deeli, after a Jammu-based doctor charged him with cheating and criminal breach of trust during a property sale.
The EOW achieved a breakthrough by cracking the case in a record time after the registration of a formal FIR, a spokesman of the Crime Branch said.
The doctor, owner of Ankur Maitrika Hospital, had alleged that he entered into an agreement to sell the property for a total consideration of Rs 3.75 crore, initially paying a token amount but later discovered that the property had been mortgaged with a bank despite being represented as free from encumbrances.
Upon Koul’s assurance, the doctor had cleared the outstanding bank liability and thereafter, paid the rest of the amount through bank transactions and cash. However, even after the passage of a considerable period of time, the property was not registered in his name nor was he given possession of the property.
“Following registration of the FIR, the Crime Branch acted swiftly and conducted a focused investigation into the bank records, financial transactions, receipts and other documentary evidence. The matter was subsequently resolved with the sale deed/ registration of the property valued at Rs 3.75 crore completed in favour of the complainant,” the spokesman said.
He said further investigation into the case is in progress.
