Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief spokesperson and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to place greater trust in Kashmiri youth and stop unnecessarily summoning people, particularly youngsters, to police stations.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters, Sadiq said people living peacefully with their families and earning their livelihoods should not be subjected to unnecessary summons, particularly ahead of important occasions, as such actions create fear and apprehension.
Referring to remarks made by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti in Delhi, Sadiq said statements such as “Banta Hai” should not be used to target or suspect the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, as such an approach could deepen alienation among people.
He said rebuilding public trust required confidence in citizens and an environment where young people could live, work and pursue their livelihoods without fear or unnecessary harassment.
Sadiq also appealed to people not to pay heed to rumours or create panic, saying there had been no decision to increase electricity tariffs and that consumers would not face any additional financial burden.
On infrastructure development, Sadiq said the Iran-US war had affected road macadamisation work. He said the work had now commenced and assured that every lane and road in the city would be macadamised in a phased manner.
He reiterated that the government remained committed to improving infrastructure, strengthening road connectivity and providing better civic amenities to residents.
