Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Tuesday reviewed arrangements for the upcoming Urs at Khankah-e-Naqshband Sahib at Khwaja Bazar, Nowhatta, and inspected ongoing restoration and upgradation work at the shrine.
Labroo held an interaction with shrine management members and district administration officials and directed departments to ensure necessary arrangements for devotees well in advance. He called for uninterrupted power and water supply, sanitation, transport and parking facilities during the Urs.
The deputy commissioner also reviewed the progress of conservation work being carried out under the government’s Heritage Preservation and Conservation Scheme. He directed officials to expedite the project and ensure its time-bound completion while maintaining prescribed quality and conservation standards.
Officials informed him that more than 65 per cent of the conservation work had been completed and the remaining work was scheduled to be finished by the end of September.
The project includes structural conservation while retaining the shrine’s original exterior character, restoration of its traditional wooden architecture and ornamentation, conservation of wooden elements on the exterior façade and installation of a traditional Khatamband ceiling with papier-mâché work in the central hall.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz, Joint Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation Nuzhat Qureshi, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineer Roads and Buildings Circle North Shabir Ahmad, Tehsildar Khanyar Syed Shahid and officers from Roads and Buildings, Public Health Engineering, Power Development Department, Archives and Archaeology and Fire and Emergency Services attended the inspection.
