SRINAGAR: The three-day Master Trainers’ Training Programme for Phase II of Population Enumeration under Census 2027 concluded on Thursday, marking the next stage of preparations for the population count in the snow-bound areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The programme, organised by the Directorate of Census Operations, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from August 4 to 6, trained master trainers who will now conduct district-level training for field trainers. The field trainers will subsequently train enumerators and supervisors for the population enumeration scheduled to begin in September 2026 in the notified snow-bound areas.
Master trainers from 16 districts of Jammu and Kashmir—Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kathua, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Kupwara, Poonch, Pulwama, Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Shopian and Udhampur—and the districts of Leh and Kargil in Ladakh participated in the programme.
According to the Directorate, Director of Census Operations for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Amit Sharma said master trainers would play a key role in ensuring uniformity, accuracy and quality during the forthcoming population enumeration. He stressed the need for standardised training across districts to prepare enumerators and supervisors for India’s first digitally conducted Census.
The training was conducted by Joint Chief Principal Census Officer and National Trainer Arun Kumar and Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer Jatinder Kumar through classroom sessions, demonstrations, practical exercises, quizzes, role plays and interactive discussions.
The programme covered census concepts and definitions, demographic particulars, religion and caste, family composition, disability, language, education, literacy, economic activity, migration, fertility, enumeration of houseless population, the revisional round, operation of the Population Enumeration mobile application, self-enumeration, interviewing techniques and digital data collection.
