According to an official statement, the review covered circle-wise performance, including verification of Input Tax Credit (ITC), compliance in filing Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns (GSTR-3B and GSTR-1), recovery of pending tax arrears, scrutiny of returns and enforcement activities.

Shailendra Kumar reiterated the policy directions issued during a recent review meeting in Jammu and said the department should adopt a dual approach of improving revenue collection while maintaining a business-friendly environment.

He directed officers to focus on taxpayer facilitation by providing guidance and simplifying compliance procedures, while ensuring strict action against tax evasion and deliberate non-compliance under the GST framework.

Commissioner State Taxes P.K. Bhat said the department would work towards achieving its revenue targets through capacity building, automated discrepancy tracking and taxpayer outreach programmes across Jammu and Kashmir, according to the statement.
