SRINAGAR: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, on Tuesday launched the Cambridge Phonics & Handwriting Programme in Srinagar, describing foundational literacy as a key element in improving the quality of early childhood education.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister said strong educational foundations during a child’s formative years are essential for developing confidence, creativity and lifelong learning.
She said the introduction of internationally recognised learning programmes would help strengthen language proficiency, reading abilities and handwriting skills among young learners, while complementing the government’s efforts to modernise the education system.
Itoo reiterated the government’s commitment to improving educational standards through contemporary teaching methods, stronger foundational learning and wider access to quality education. She also called upon educators and institutions to adopt learner-centric approaches that promote curiosity, critical thinking and academic excellence.
MLA Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar, educationists, teachers, school administrators, parents and other guests attended the programme. Participants welcomed the introduction of the Cambridge Phonics & Handwriting Programme, expressing hope that it would help improve foundational literacy and learning outcomes among schoolchildren in Jammu and Kashmir.
