Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, V.K. Birdi on Monday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kashmir, to assess the prevailing security situation and review arrangements ahead of forthcoming events across the Valley.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Intelligence Bureau and the Army, besides district police chiefs and other senior officials.
According to police, officers briefed the IGP on the security situation in their respective jurisdictions and reviewed recent developments, emerging challenges and measures taken to address them.
Birdi directed officers to regularly assess and strengthen existing security arrangements and emphasised close coordination among all security agencies to maintain an effective security grid.
He also reviewed security measures for national highways, railway tracks and railway stations, directing officers to strengthen deployments, establish dynamic checkpoints and intensify night patrolling, particularly at vulnerable locations and inter-district boundaries.
The IGP stressed the need to protect critical infrastructure and other vulnerable locations through preventive measures, area domination and enhanced surveillance. He also directed district police chiefs to maintain vigilance against anti-national and anti-social elements, intensify intelligence-based operations and monitor social media to curb the spread of misinformation, rumours and content that could disturb public order.
Police said the meeting concluded with a resolve to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure effective implementation of security measures across the Valley.
