Kupwara: The Sub-Divisional Administration Karnah has stepped up preparedness measures and issued an advisory to nomadic families in view of the forecast of heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions over the coming week.
According to officials, the administration has mapped all nomadic and migratory families in the sub-division and advised them to avoid camping near nallahs, water channels, landslide-prone areas and other vulnerable locations. The families have also been asked to remain vigilant and immediately report any emergency to the administration.
Meanwhile, a seasonal hut belonging to a nomadic family of Altaf Ahmad, son of Kaloo Chachi of Nachiyan village, was damaged due to heavy overnight rainfall.
Officials said the administration responded promptly by providing the affected family with a kitchen set, tarpaulin and a ration kit. Altaf Ahmad, who sustained minor injuries, was shifted to the Sub-District Hospital, Tangdhar, where he received treatment before being discharged.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Karnah, accompanied by the Station House Officer (SHO) Karnah, visited the affected site, assessed the damage and interacted with nomadic families residing in the area. The families were sensitised about safety precautions to be observed during the prevailing weather conditions.
The SDM also inspected a minor landslide on the CTC Road triggered by the rainfall. Officials said the affected stretch had been temporarily restored by the Beacon authorities, and directions were issued for early clearance of debris to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
The administration said it is closely monitoring the situation and has activated field-level response mechanisms to ensure timely assistance and public safety during the ongoing spell of inclement weather.
