Budgam: Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan on Monday reviewed the district’s preparedness to deal with possible weather-related emergencies and directed all departments to maintain a high level of readiness in view of the Meteorological Department’s weather advisory.
Chairing a high-level meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed officers to ensure continuous monitoring of upper reaches, flood-prone areas and other vulnerable locations to facilitate timely relief and rescue operations in the event of adverse weather.
He instructed that the District Control Room remain operational round the clock, with similar control rooms functioning effectively at the sub-divisional level, and emphasised regular assessment of the situation and close coordination among all departments.
The Deputy Commissioner directed authorities to take advance precautionary measures, including the relocation of families living in highly vulnerable areas, particularly along the Doodganga, Shaliganga and Nallah Sukhnag river belts, wherever necessary to safeguard lives and property.
He also ordered the immediate mobilisation of personnel and machinery of the police, SDRF, Civil Defence, Irrigation and Flood Control, Roads and Buildings, KPDCL and Jal Shakti departments.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed departments to ensure that dewatering pumps remain operational in flood-prone and low-lying areas and directed that temporary shelters with essential facilities be kept ready for families affected by any weather-related incidents.
He further stressed the need for prompt restoration of roads and other essential public services following any disruption and directed officials to ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential commodities, including LPG and ration supplies, across the district.
The Deputy Commissioner also called for the immediate disposal of relief cases under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Vivek Agarwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Taufeeq Ahmad Gazi, Additional Superintendent of Police Syed Sajad Hussain, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Superintending Engineers of various departments and other district officers.
