According to officials, the seven members of the family developed symptoms of acute gastroenteritis and diarrhoea shortly after consuming a naturally growing wild mushroom suspected to be poisonous.

Following an SOS call from the village, a health department team along with two ambulances rushed to the area and shifted the patients to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Kandi for emergency treatment.

After receiving initial medical aid, all the patients were referred to the Government Medical College (GMC)-Associated Hospital in Rajouri, where they were admitted in the early hours of Friday, officials said.

Doctors said six of the patients were out of danger, while one child remained under close observation as his condition was stated to be unstable.

Medical teams are monitoring the patients round the clock and providing the best possible treatment, hospital authorities said.

Preliminary investigation by the police and the health department indicated that the family had consumed wild mushrooms collected from the area, leading to the suspected food poisoning, officials added.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the poisoning, officials said.
