Pulwama: An unidentified body was recovered from the Jhelum River near Kawani in the Awantipora area of south Kashmir on Monday, officials said.
According to officials, locals spotted the body floating in the river and immediately informed the police.
A police team rushed to the spot and retrieved the body from the river. Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased is believed to be a non-local, though his identity has not yet been established.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further investigation to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
