Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Basharat Qayoom, who is also the Principal Census Officer for the district, briefed the meeting on measures taken to ensure smooth and timely conduct of Census-2027.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner, functioning as District Census Officer, presented a detailed overview of the district’s performance, covering progress in self-enumeration and House Listing Operations, awareness campaigns, training of census staff, creation of House Listing Blocks, field operations, inclusion of migratory populations and arrangements for remote and snow-bound areas.

Appreciating the work of census functionaries, Sharma congratulated the district administration for its performance during the self-enumeration phase and urged officials to maintain the same momentum during the ongoing House Listing and Housing Census operations.

He described the census as one of the country’s most important administrative exercises, noting that census data forms the basis for policy formulation, development planning, welfare programmes and allocation of resources.

To strengthen public confidence in the process, Sharma directed supervisors and enumerators to properly identify themselves during field visits and educate residents about the significance of Census-2027.

Reviewing the ongoing operations, he expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved so far and directed officials to ensure complete household coverage while maintaining the highest standards of data quality. He instructed Charge Officers to conduct regular field inspections and ensure strict adherence to census guidelines and quality-control measures.

The CPCO also emphasised the need for inclusive coverage, directing officials to ensure proper enumeration of migratory populations and tribal communities so that no eligible individual or household is left out of the exercise.

Speaking on the occasion, Basharat Qayoom said the district administration is implementing the census exercise with a zero-error approach and has established robust monitoring mechanisms to ensure accuracy and completeness of data collection. He assured full administrative support to census teams and stressed the need for close coordination among field functionaries.

The meeting concluded with an interactive session during which supervisors, enumerators and other officials raised operational queries that were addressed by the Director Census Operations and senior officers.

Among those present were Additional Deputy Commissioners of Tral and Awantipora, the Joint Chief Principal Census Officer, Charge Officers, district and sectoral officers, supervisors, enumerators and other officials associated with the census exercise.
