SRINAGAR: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday welcomed reports of a peace arrangement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step towards reducing tensions and promoting stability in the region.
In a statement, Abdullah said the reported agreement, which envisages an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a framework for continued dialogue and negotiations, was an encouraging development.
He expressed hope that the initiative would help pave the way for the peaceful resolution of differences and contribute to lasting peace in the wider region.
The former chief minister said both countries should build on the positive momentum and engage constructively in sustained diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and durable settlement.
Abdullah stressed that meaningful dialogue remains the most effective means of resolving disputes and preventing further human suffering. He urged all stakeholders to seize the opportunity and continue efforts towards peace and stability.
