He appreciated the growing participation of girls in sporting activities and reiterated the department’s commitment to providing platforms that help nurture talent and encourage healthy competition.

A total of 216 athletes from 18 zones are participating in the championship, which is being conducted in a league-cum-knockout format to provide maximum competitive exposure to the teams.

The opening day’s matches witnessed enthusiastic participation and competitive performances across both courts. On Court No. 1, teams from Rohama, Nehalpora, Kunzer and Sopore registered victories in their respective matches.

Similarly, on Court No. 2, teams representing Dangiwacha, Dangerpora, Pattan and Wagoora emerged victorious.

Officials said the championship reflects the growing sports culture in the district and provides an important opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills and sportsmanship.

The tournament is being conducted under the supervision of the Department of Youth Services and Sports Baramulla and will conclude on Tuesday with the final matches followed by the felicitation of winning teams.
