Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Anantnag, Awantipora & Pulwama and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Saturday.
He said in Anantnag, police arrested two drug peddlers in separate operations. Mohammad Yousuf Magray of Cherpora was arrested near village Sheikhpora Chund and 715 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.
At Khanpora Crossing, police arrested Javaid Ahmad Bhat of Shangus and recovered 158 grams of cannabis powder-like substance from his possession.
In Awantipora, during routine checking at Satoora, a motorcycle (JK22B-8187) was intercepted. Two persons riding it — Adil Ahmad Dar and Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, both residents of Satoora – were arrested after 199 grams of cannabis powder was recovered from their possession. The motorcycle was also seized.
In Pulwama, police intercepted a Sumo vehicle (JK13A-3176) at Urwan and recovered seven grams of heroin-like substance from its driver Parvaiz Ahmad Hajam of Newa. The accused was arrested on the spot and the vehicle seized.
Cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigation, police said.
