Jammu: Authorities have accelerated infrastructure and maintenance works on National Highway-44 in Ramban and Udhampur districts to ensure smooth traffic movement during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 and the monsoon season.
In Ramban, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan reviewed the ongoing four-laning project from Nashri to Banihal. NHAI officials informed him that a key 3.5-km tunnel, two major viaducts and a 1.2-km stretch are nearing completion and are expected to be operational before the Yatra. Khan directed NHAI to clear debris, complete blacktopping, install crash barriers and finish all pending works on priority.
In Udhampur, Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh inspected NH-44 from Jakheni Chowk to Chenani and reviewed restoration works at critical locations in Tharad, Dewal and Samroli. He directed the executing agency to complete the works by the end of June and ensure road markings and drain cleaning along the stretch.
The inspections are part of the administration’s preparations to ensure safe and hassle-free travel for pilgrims and commuters during the Yatra season.
