Srinagar: A 2001 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Monika Dhami assumed the charge of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax today in Srinagar, a PIB press release informed.
It said Dhami has served in important and diverse positions including policy making positions at Department of Economic Affairs, corporate and salary assessment charges within the Income Tax department and a distinguished tenure as the lead trainer of newly inducted civil servants at LBSNAA, the Apex training Academy for Civil Services.
In the existing organisational pecking order, Dhami is the highest ranked officer of Income Tax Department in the region that covers the large jurisdictional expanse of UT of Jammu & Kashmir and UT of Ladakh.
She has been posted at Srinagar by the Government of India “strategically” to work closely with all stakeholders, including taxpayers, tax professionals, trade and industry bodies, to further strengthen a fair, transparent, and taxpayer-friendly tax administration in the region, the press release said.
An alumni of London School of Economics, Monika Dhami holds a Masters degree in Public Policy, and has across her bureaucratic career been a strong votary for preservation of local cultural spaces.
Having held the important position as Additional Director General Training, Directorate of Training, New Delhi, Dhami has also promised to focus on the skill development of the staff in order to enable their professional and personal growth in the dynamic atmosphere of public services, PIB said.
