Ganderbal: Member of Legislative Assembly Kangan Mian Meher Ali on Tuesday completed his self-enumeration through the Census Self-Enumeration Portal under the Census 2027 digital initiative.
Officials said the MLA became among the first public representatives in Ganderbal district to complete the self-enumeration exercise.
The process was facilitated by the Tehsildar Kangan, who is also serving as Charge Officer for Census 2027 in the tehsil.
During the exercise, the MLA was briefed about the importance of the digital census, use of the mobile application and web portal, and the role of citizens in ensuring accurate and real-time data collection.
Speaking on the occasion, Mian Meher Ali said the census forms the foundation for planning and welfare schemes and appealed to residents of Kangan to actively participate in the self-enumeration process.
He said accurate data would help project the developmental needs of Jammu and Kashmir effectively at the national level.
The Tehsildar Kangan informed that the tehsil had earlier been appreciated at the national level for timely and error-free completion of the Census 2025 pre-test conducted in November 2025.
He said teams are conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns and establishing facilitation camps in Panchayats to encourage public participation in Census 2027.
Officials also informed that a dedicated helpdesk has been established at the Tehsil Office Kangan to assist citizens in self-enumeration from 10 am to 4 pm on working days.
The demonstration programme was attended by members of the public, supervisors and census functionaries.
