Srinagar: Police in Srinagar have attached properties worth Rs 5.8 crore belonging to three alleged drug peddlers as part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking, officials said on Saturday.

A team from the Khanyar police station attached three immovable properties along with a vehicle belonging to the accused under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a police spokesman said.

The first property belonged to Nazir Ahmad Mir, alias Nazir Lashkari – a double-storey residential house along with eight shops built on 4.5 marlas of land at Koolipora in Khanyar – estimated to be worth Rs 3.2 crore, the spokesman said.

The second property belonged to Gulzar Ahmad Mir, a resident of Miskeen Bagh, Khanyar. It included an SUV along with seven marlas of land and a temporary structure erected on it, with a combined estimated value of Rs 1.8 crore, the spokesman said.

The third belonged to Zahid Manzoor Rather, a resident of Lone Mohalla, Nowpora Khanyar, comprising a single-storey residential house built on nine marlas of land, valued at Rs 80 lakh, he said.

“The attached assets were acquired using proceeds of narcotics trafficking,” the spokesman added.

In Handwara too, police attached a residential house belonging to Abdul Hameed Sheikh of Kachloo Kralgund.

Police also attached immovable property worth Rs 71 lakh of an alleged drug peddler in Udhampur district.

The property belonged to Jawaz Ahmed Wani, a resident of the Akramabad area of Doda, they said.

Under Section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the action was taken by the Udhampur police in connection with a case registered at Rehambal police station, officials said.

The police said the investigation in the case revealed that the accused had allegedly acquired the property through proceeds generated from the illicit narcotics trade.

Separately, police in Kulgam along with the Revenue department demolished an “illegal” commercial structure belonging to an alleged drug peddler Showket Ahmad Wani, a resident of Sopat Devsar.

“The action was taken after it was established that the structure had been illegally constructed by encroaching upon state land,” police said.
