Srinagar: Police arrested a drug peddler in Sopore, while action against the peddlers continued elsewhere in the valley, a police spokesperson informed Tuesday.
Sharing details, he said Mohammad Sultan Malik of Nagrota Bypass Jammu, presently residing at Putukha Sopore, was arrested at the Naseembagh Crossing after his personal search yielded psychotropic substance Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus capsules.
A case under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Tarzoo for further investigation.
Meanwhile, police in Baramulla demolished an “illegally constructed” cowshed raised on State land by a “known drug peddler” Showkat Ahmad Bhat of Yakhmanpora Pattan, spokesperson said.
He said the accused is involved in FIR No. 05/2025 under Sections 8/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Pattan.
In Kulgam too, police carried out a demolition at village Drien Dawlatabad, razing two “illegal” shops constructed over State land by “notorious” NDPS accused Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh of Drinen.
The accused is involved in four NDPS cases : FIR No. 150/2018, FIR No. 251/2020, FIR No. 87/2020 & FIR No. 101/2023. Apart from the above, he is also involved in five other local/stone pelting related cases, spokesperson said.
In Srinagar, police attached an immovable property comprising a double-storeyed residential house along with land worth approximately ₹1.2 crores at Gasoo Hazratbal.
The property belongs to Maqsood Hussain Khan of Banday Lane Hazratbal, at present Gasoo Hazratbal. The attachment was carried out under the provisions of Section 68(F)(1) of the NDPS Act, 1985 in connection with FIR No. 42/2023 U/S 8/20, 21, 29 NDPS Act of Police Station Nigeen and FIR No. 20/2025 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act of Police Station Ganderbal.
During investigation, the property was identified as “illegally acquired property linked to illicit drug trafficking activities”, police said.
In Handwara, police in coordination with the District administration, retrieved five Kanals of government land “illegally encroached upon by a known drug peddler” in the Budshungi area of Tehsil Zachaldara.
The encroached land was found under the “illegal occupation” of Showket Ahmad Khatana, who is involved in FIR No. 234/2025 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Handwara.
Police also attached a residential house belonging to Nazir Ahmad Peer of Nagranar Handwara. The attached property has been identified as having been renovated through proceeds generated from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, police said, adding that the accused is involved in multiple FIRs in NDPS Act.
In Shopian too police attached an immovable property valued at ₹10,07,300 belonging to Arshid Ahmad Dar of Nadender Trenz Imamsahib. The land measuring 14 Marlas was identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics, police said.
