Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) has announced a comprehensive calendar of sporting events to be organised across the Kashmir Valley over the coming weeks as part of the ongoing 100-day “Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan.”

The initiative forms a key component of the government-led campaign aimed at engaging youth through sports, nurturing grassroots talent and promoting a healthy, drug-free sporting culture across Jammu and Kashmir.

As part of the programme, the South Kashmir Volleyball League 2026 will be organised from May 14 to 17 in association with the Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir. The league is expected to provide a competitive platform for volleyball players from South Kashmir and help identify emerging talent at the district level.

Similarly, the Kashmir Championship Football League, which will be conducted across all districts of Kashmir division, will begin with selection trials. The first trial is scheduled on May 13 at Madri Meharban Stadium in Ganderbal district. Officials said players aspiring to represent their districts have been advised to report at the venue on the scheduled date, while trial schedules for the remaining districts will be announced later.

The Karate Championship will also be inaugurated on May 16 at the Indoor Sports Hall, Polo Ground Srinagar, where karate athletes from across the Valley will participate and showcase their skills in the martial art discipline.

In observance of World Bicycle Day, the Sports Council will organise a Cyclothon in Srinagar aimed at promoting cycling as a healthy lifestyle choice while simultaneously creating awareness against drug abuse and obesity. The dates and route details for the event will be announced separately.

Officials also said that a Women’s Rugby Trophy is in the pipeline as part of the Council’s efforts to expand sporting opportunities for women. Further details regarding the event’s venue, format and dates will be communicated in the coming days.

Besides the competitive events, the Sports Council will conduct live demonstrations and introductory sessions in a number of martial arts and traditional combat disciplines, including Thang-Ta, Taekwondo, Karate, Pencak Silat, Wushu, Kudo and Suky Martial Art.

According to JKSC, these demonstrations are aimed at introducing youth to diverse sporting traditions, encouraging grassroots participation and providing pathways for structured sports training programmes.

The Sports Council said all events under the calendar are aligned with the broader objectives of the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, including constructive youth engagement through sports, combating drug abuse, promoting physical fitness, nurturing athletic talent and addressing growing health concerns such as obesity.

Officials stated that sport should not merely be viewed as a recreational activity but as a powerful instrument for social transformation and community well-being.

The Sports Council has invited athletes, coaches, sports associations and enthusiasts from across Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate in the events and contribute towards building a healthier, stronger and drug-free generation.
