BUDGAM: Srinagar Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday conducted an extensive tour of breach sites in Sumerbugh and Shalina areas of Budgam to assess the damage caused by recent fluctuations in water levels and review restoration and flood safety measures.
During the visit, the MP inspected locations where embankments along the Jhelum River and its flood spill channels had developed breaches.
Local delegations also met the MP and apprised him of their demands and concerns.
Aga Syed Ruhullah directed the concerned officers to expedite restoration work and ensure that breaches are plugged using modern engineering standards for long-term stability. He also called for comprehensive reinforcement of vulnerable stretches along the Shalina-Sumerbugh axis.
The MP instructed officials to maintain constant vigil on water levels and closely monitor the structural integrity of embankments to prevent any further damage.
Assuring residents of Sumerbugh and Shalina of his support, Aga Syed Ruhullah said he would personally monitor the progress of the restoration works.
He also inspected the Sempor–Seerbagh Bridge project, where officials briefed him about the financial and physical status of the project.
The MP was accompanied by the SDM Chadoora, Executive Engineers of Flood and Irrigation, BDO B.K. Pora and other concerned officials.
