Srinagar: Police in Anantnag have destroyed illegal poppy cultivation and arrested twenty-two persons involved in multiple NDPS cases across the district, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.
Sharing details, the spokesperson said poppy plants were destroyed in the properties of Mohammad Yaseen Hagru of Sarnal Bala and Ghulam Nabi Mir of Nanil.
Police also arrested two accused persons — Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh alias Ama Khuja of Dessu, involved in FIR No. 24/2026, and Nisar Ahmad Beigh of Khrety Larnoo involved in FIR No. 22/2026.
Police in Kokernag also arrested seven persons involved in three separate NDPS cases related to illegal poppy cultivation. The arrested persons include Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, Shakeel Ahmad Wani, Farooq Ahmad Wani and another Nazir Ahmad Bhat, residents of Sagam and Panzgam areas of Kokernag.
Police Station Srigufwara also arrested 11 accused involved in multiple cases pertaining to illegal cultivation of opium poppy in different areas falling under its jurisdiction.
All the accused persons have been arrested under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and further investigation in the cases is underway, police said.
