SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday intensified its crackdown against illegal mining activities across south Kashmir, seizing 17 vehicles and registering multiple FIRs in Anantnag, Shopian and Pulwama districts.
In Anantnag district, police carried out separate enforcement operations in the jurisdictions of Aishmuqam and Janglatmandi, resulting in the seizure of five vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of mining material.
Officials said a police team from Police Station Aishmuqam intercepted a tractor carrying illegally extracted boulders during naka checking at Rangkadal, Aishmuqam. The vehicle was seized on the spot and a case under relevant provisions of law was registered.
In another operation, a police party from Police Post Janglatmandi intercepted four tractors without registration number plates during night patrolling at Mominabad. Upon inspection, the vehicles were found loaded with mining material and the drivers failed to produce valid documents or permission for transportation. All four vehicles were seized and legal action initiated.
Meanwhile, in Shopian district, police seized seven vehicles, including three tippers and four tractors, allegedly involved in illegal mining activities from different areas of the district.
Police said a team from Police Post Turkwangam intercepted two tippers and one tractor fitted with a jali engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In this regard, FIR No. 68/2026 was registered at Police Station Zainapora and investigation taken up.
In another action, Police Post Berthipora seized a tractor involved in illegal mining activities, following which FIR No. 45/2026 was registered at Police Station Keller.
Similarly, a police team from Police Post Saidpora seized a tipper allegedly involved in illegal mining, leading to registration of FIR No. 33/2026 at Police Station Heerpora.
In a separate operation, Police Station Heerpora seized two tractors transporting minerals without mandatory permission. FIR No. 34/2026 was registered and investigation is underway.
In Pulwama district, police seized five vehicles in the Kakapora area during naka checking and patrolling operations.
Officials said the vehicles were found transporting illegally extracted minerals without valid permission or royalty documents. Two FIRs, numbered 36/2026 and 37/2026, were registered at Police Station Kakapora and investigation has been initiated.
