KULGAM: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Shahzad Alam on Tuesday inaugurated a Girls Cricket Tournament at Sports Stadium Chawalgam under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan aimed at promoting sports and spreading awareness against substance abuse.
Addressing the participants and officials on the occasion, the DC said the tournament has been organised to provide a platform for young girls to showcase and enhance their sporting talent while encouraging youth participation in constructive and positive activities.
He said the initiative also seeks to create awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a healthy and disciplined lifestyle among young people.
Highlighting the importance of sports in youth development, Shahzad Alam said such activities help channelise the energy of youngsters in a positive direction and contribute towards their overall personality development.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Viqar Ahmed Giri, who was also present on the occasion, said such events not only nurture sporting talent but also play a vital role in building discipline, teamwork and resilience among participants.
The participants were urged to stay away from substance abuse and actively engage in sports and other constructive pursuits for a healthier and brighter future.
