Srinagar: Police in Anantnag and Shopian districts intensified their crackdown on illicit poppy cultivation, destroying illegal crops and initiating legal action in multiple cases.
A police spokesperson informed that at Shiekhgund Anantnag, illegal poppy cultivation was detected on land belonging to Farooq Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rashid Mir. A police team destroyed the cultivation on the spot while a case (FIR No. 44/2026) Was registered under Section 8/18 of the NDPS for further investigation.
In Shopian also, police destroyed wild cannabis plants spread over approximately 30 marlas of land at Shadab Karewa.
