Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday presented a chargesheet against a former public servant in a bribery case registered in 2022.
The chargesheet was filed in FIR No. 07/2022 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Srinagar, against accused Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, then Computer Operator in PWD (R&B) Circle Ganderbal, before the court of the Additional Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar.
According to officials, the case was registered on March 2, 2022, following a written complaint alleging that the accused had demanded a bribe of ₹4,000 for issuance of a D-Class contractor card. Acting on the complaint, ACB laid a trap during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
The tainted money was recovered on the spot, and subsequent chemical examination confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on the accused’s hands, substantiating the allegation of illegal gratification.
During the course of investigation, ACB said sufficient evidence was gathered establishing the commission of offence under Section 7 of the Act against the accused, a resident of Bamloora, Ganderbal.
After completing all legal and departmental formalities, the chargesheet was presented before the court for judicial determination on April 27, 2026. The next date of hearing in the case has been fixed for June 10, 2026.
