DYSS Baramulla engages thousands in multi-zonal school sports drive

Baramulla: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Baramulla engaged thousands of students across 11 educational zones of the district in a vibrant series of inter-school zonal-level sports competitions for both boys and girls.

Held at respective zonal venues, the competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of various government and private institutions, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and healthy competition among the youth.

In Zone Wagoora, an inter-school chess competition for Under-14 and Under-17 boys was conducted at HS Watergam, with 64 students participating. Similarly, Zone Nehalpora organised a chess competition for Under-14 boys and girls at BMS Waripora, where 30 students took part.

Zone Singpora Pattan hosted inter-school volleyball competitions for Under-14 and Under-17 boys under the banner of Nasha Mukt Abhiyan J&K, combining sports with social awareness. In another event, Zone Dangiwacha conducted badminton competitions for Under-14 and Under-17 girls, drawing participation from 70 students.

Zone Rohama organised competitions for Under-14 and Under-17 girls at HS Tragpora under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan J&K, where 87 students showcased their skills. Meanwhile, Zone Pattan conducted a badminton competition for Under-17 girls at HSS Pattan, with 38 participants.

Zone Singpora Kalan held inter-school competitions for Under-17 boys and girls at BHS Singpora Kalan, while Zone Dangerpora organised Under-14 badminton competitions at HSS Dangerpora, witnessing participation from 100 students.

Zone Tangmarg conducted badminton competitions for Under-17 boys with 40 participants and also organised kabaddi and cricket matches under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan J&K. Zone Uri, meanwhile, held awareness programmes for both boys and girls under the campaign, highlighting the importance of a drug-free and healthy lifestyle.

The department continues to use sports as a medium to channelise youth energy into constructive activities while spreading awareness about social issues such as drug abuse.

The DYSSO Baramulla appreciated the efforts of all Zonal Physical Education Officers, field staff, and participating institutions for the successful conduct of the competitions, reiterating the department’s commitment to holistic youth development through sports and allied activities.
