Pulwama: Police on Thursday foiled an alleged timber smuggling bid in the Sangerwani area of Pulwama and arrested two persons, while another managed to escape.
According to police, action was taken on specific information regarding illegal timber smuggling in Sangerwani.
A police team conducted a raid in the Inderwali area, where three persons had allegedly stacked wooden timber beams on the roadside and were attempting to transport them illegally.
The accused were identified as Zaffar Hussain Khatana, Mukhtar Ahmad Bhomla and Imtiyaz Ahmad Poswal.
Police said Zaffar Hussain Khatana and Mukhtar Ahmad Bhomla were arrested on the spot, while Imtiyaz Ahmad Poswal escaped.
During the operation, police seized six wooden timber beams from the site.
A case under FIR No. 60/2026 has been registered at Police Station Rajpora and further investigation has been taken up.
Police said efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding accused.
