Srinagar: Police arrested nine drug peddlers in Anantnag, Sopore and Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Friday.

Sharing details, he said Nazir Ahmad Dar of Bumdoora Kokernag was arrested at Hangulgund Kokernag. After 7.84 grams of a heroin-like substance were recovered from his possession.

Ajaz Ahmad Tantray of Kapran, and Rayees Ahmad Sheikh of Khreti, Larnoo, were apprehended after 5.91 grams of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from their possession.

At Harnag Crossing, Suhail Ahmad Bhat of Krangsoo Mattan, and Umer Khan of Reasi were arrested and two grams of heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from them.

In Sopore, search of crockery shop belonging to Mukhtar Ahmad Kanjwal of Noorbagh, yielded psychotropic substances including Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus, Pregabalin and Nortriptyline tablets, unsealed bottles of codeine-like substance, and contraband brown sugar-like substance, police said.

At Wagub Crossing, one Tanveer Ahmad Shah of Wagub Sopore was arrested and Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus was recovered from his possession.

In Awantipora, Haroon Rasheed Bhat alias Aaqib of Renzipora, Reshipora was arrested after 340 grams of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered during a raid at his residential house.

At Khar Mohd, Awantipora, Bilal Ahmad Rah of KP Road, Khanabal, Anantnag was arrested after approximately 55 grams of cannabis powder-like substance and 16 grams of cannabis were recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, police said.
