ANANTNAG: Dr. Mohammad Numan Gowhar, a young physiotherapist and social activist from Achabal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, has been conferred with the prestigious International Physiotherapy Social Impact Award at the Indian International Physiotherapy Congress (IIPC) held in Goa.
Dr. Numan, 23, has emerged as a prominent face in the field of physiotherapy and public awareness, with a social media following of more than two lakh people across various platforms. Through his digital outreach and social work, he has consistently highlighted the importance of physiotherapy and its role in improving the quality of life of patients.
Recognising his contribution to the field and his influence among youth, the organisers of the Indian International Physiotherapy Congress invited him to participate in the international conference held in Goa in 2026.
During the conference, Dr. Numan was felicitated with the International Physiotherapy Social Impact Award in recognition of his outstanding efforts in creating awareness about physiotherapy, motivating aspiring physiotherapists and using social media as a platform for social good.
Apart from his professional work, Dr. Numan is widely known for his active involvement in social causes and community welfare initiatives. He has been consistently working to guide and encourage young students pursuing physiotherapy and allied healthcare professions.
Speaking after receiving the award, Dr. Numan said there is an urgent need for greater government attention towards the physiotherapy sector. He stressed that hospitals should be upgraded with modern physiotherapy facilities and that more job opportunities and sanctioned posts should be created for physiotherapy graduates in order to strengthen the healthcare system.
“Physiotherapy is an essential component of healthcare, but it still does not receive the attention it deserves. We need better infrastructure, more employment opportunities and stronger institutional support so that physiotherapists can contribute more effectively to society,” he said.
People from different walks of life, including members of the medical fraternity and youth from the district, have congratulated Dr. Mohammad Numan Gowhar on his achievement and described the honour as a matter of pride for Anantnag and Jammu and Kashmir.
