New Delhi: The All India Congress Committee has appointed ad-hoc District Congress Committee chairpersons for its Scheduled Caste Department in Jammu and Kashmir as part of an effort to strengthen the party organisation at the grassroots level.
The appointments were announced by Rajendra Pal Gautam with the approval of the AICC.
In a communication addressed to Tariq Hameed Karra, Gautam sought support for the newly appointed office-bearers.
According to the list, Yograj has been appointed for Kathua, Vinod Kumar for Samba, Balkrishan for Rajouri, Baldev Raj for Jammu Rural on an acting basis, Bhushan Kumar for Doda, Amar Singh for Kishtwar, Sahil Shivotra for Jammu Rural and Sham Bansal for Udhampur.
The appointments have been made on an ad-hoc basis and the performance of the appointees will be reviewed after three months. Their continuation and regularisation will depend on their effectiveness and contribution towards strengthening the party and addressing issues concerning the Scheduled Caste community.
The move is being seen as part of the Congress party’s strategy to revive its cadre base and increase outreach among SC communities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Copies of the notification have also been sent to senior Congress leaders, including K. C. Venugopal, Syed Naseer Hussain, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, K. Raju, Divya Maderna, Pargat Singh, Teena Chaudhary and Karan Bhagat.
