Srinagar: Police on Thursday attached a residential house worth Rs 30 lakhs in Pulwama district of south Kashmir under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

“As part of intensified campaign against narcotics trafficking and with an aim to dismantle the financial network of the drug trade, police in Pulwama district have attached a double-storied residential house valued at approximately Rs 30 lakhs, situated at Waghama,” a police spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said the attached property belongs to Athar Maqbool and was acquired through proceeds of narcotics trafficking.

The property was seized and attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, he said, adding the accused is involved in a case under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Litter.

Meanwhile, in Baramulla, police have attached a vehicle (Alto-800; JK05K-7701), linked to a drug trafficking case,  police spokesperson said.

He said the vehicle is linked to Abdul Ahad Magray, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Magray of Sharai, who is involved in FIR No. 55/2014 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act, 48 Excise Act of PS Kunzer and FIR No. 74/2024 U/S 8/18-29 NDPS Act.

During investigation, it surfaced that the said vehicle “had been purchased from proceeds generated through the illicit sale of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances”. In order to conceal the actual ownership, the vehicle was registered in the name of his son, police said, adding that Magray is a “habitual offender involved in drug peddling, whose repeated illegal activities have contributed to the spread of drug abuse, particularly among the youth, posing a serious threat to society.”
